Without mentioning his name, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asked Greg Abbott to “lower a hairline”this after the US governor of Texas analyzes declaring as a “invasion” the arrival of more migrants to the United Statesaccording to a report by The New York Times.
“There I am now listening to some politicians from the United States. As there are elections they are already making accusations and there is one that talks about declaring that we are invading them, that it is an invasion. I would tell him to lower a hairline“, he pointed.
The Mexican president invited the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, to listen to the corrido ´Somos Más Americanos´, by the Mexican group ´Los Tigres del Norte´, that in their lyrics they point out that the ‘gringos’ were the ones who painted “the line” on the border and invaded Mexican territory by taking away several states, in addition to the fact that Mexicans are also Americans.
“It is good that he is campaigning, but how can he talk about an invasion? If we go to those, well, there I invite you to listen to the corrido of the Northern Tigers ´We are More Americans´and after I listen to it, we talk”, he suggested.
It was last weekend that a report by ‘The New York Times’ stated that Greg Abbott analyzes declaring the growing arrival of migrants at the southern border with Mexico as an “invasion” of the United Statesa situation that would allow him to assume war powers and expand his powers.
The behavior of the governor of Texas in recent weeks has caused annoyance to the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
One of those “annoying” episodes was when the Republican hindered the entry of cargo trucks into US territory arguing that the correct inspections were not being carried out and that this was causing more undocumented migrants to arrive in Texas.
Given these facts, Andrés Manuel López Obrador described the behavior of Texas as “vile”, while the Mexican foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, described them as “extortion”.because Greg Abbott asked the Mexican governors of Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Chihuahua to individually sign agreements to end restrictions on cargo trucks.
“Let me put this in quotes, it is the extortion scheme, rather an extortion: I close the border and you have to sign what I saythat is not an agreement, an agreement is that you and I agree on something, “said Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard in an interview for the Mexican media Milenio TV.
“I do not judge, I believe that the governors do what they can, they had no other alternative, but we are not going to be willing for a governor to extort money from Mexico, I will never allow that,” he said in the interview from the state of New Lion.
