Jesus Ferreira, another of America’s young soccer stars, scored four goals to add his name to the record book of ‘Team USA’ and lead his team to a 5-0 victory over modest Granada on Friday night in Austin. The match was for the Concacaf Nations League.
Not only did the 21-year-old Ferreira tie the record for most goals in a game for the United States senior team, but he did it at home, as Colombian-born forward grew up in the Dallas area watching his father playDavid Ferreira, an emblem of FC Dallas of the MLS, where Jesus is a figure.
The five goals from the USA had a Texan stamp, as the other goal was scored by Paul Arriola, also from FC Dallas. The game was the last for the US team on home soil before the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The last time a US player scored four goals in a game was in 2003 when Landon Donovan did it against Cuba. Before that it happened three times.
Ferreira, one of four players who trained at the FC Dallas academy to start this Fridayopened the scoring before halftime by recovering a bounced ball in the Granada area, settling to the left and shooting low and placed.
The US made it 2-0 in the 54th minute when Ferreira resolved a right cross after a magnificent pass from Paul Arriola, who left him alone.
Ferreira’s fourth goal came in the 78th minute after an error in the exit of the visiting players. Brenden Aaronson entered the area and gave Ferreira the goal.
The United States, which had just tied with Uruguay, reached 26 straight home games without losing to equal the team record set from 2013 to 2015. The next commitment of the ‘Team USA’ will be on Tuesday visiting El Salvador.
