Despite his respected career at club level, with whom he has played 307 games accompanied by 70 goals, the Mexican midfielder Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña is once again a topic of conversation due to his unfortunate condition of alcoholism.
In the last month, the 32-year-old footballer, who has been without a club for more than six months after his unsuccessful stint at the Antigua club in Guatemala, has been in the news for his obvious states of public intoxication and how fans have caught it on video.
On this occasion, a man got Peña in a moving car along with five other women -although it is not clearly seen in the video- so he took the opportunity to record a video in which he clearly mocks the player.
In the audiovisual, which quickly accumulated thousands of views on TikTok and others when it was uploaded to Twitter, the fan jokes with Gullit about inviting him to a graduation, to which he responds almost stammering: “Ah, how do you think?”
These events take place in León, hometown of Carlos Peña, a former Pachuca player, Chivas de Guadalajara, Cruz Azul, Necaxa and his city’s team, Club León, just to name the eleven he wore in Liga MX since his debut in 2010.
Mexican media reported in recent days that several friends have tried to approach Gullit to help him with his alcoholism, but the attempts have been unsuccessful mainly due to the current environment with which he spends his time.
