Several explosions were heard early on Sunday (06.26.2022) in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the Ukrainian capital kyiv, the city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko said via Telegram. According to witnesses it was a missile attack.
Anton Herashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, said eyewitnesses had reported missile strikes. It was not immediately clear if there were any fatalities or serious injuries.
“Ambulance teams and rescuers were dispatched to the scene. More detailed information – later,” Klitschko said on his Telegram channel. “Residents are being rescued and evacuated from two buildings,” the mayor explained.
The historic Shevchenkivskyi district, one of the most central in kyiv, is home to a cluster of universities, restaurants, and art galleries.
These explosions take place despite the fact that Russian forces have withdrawn from the area to focus their offensive on eastern Ukraine.
In the last hours, the Ukrainian authorities have reported that Russian troops have “fired massively” against Kharkov on the night of Saturday to Sunday, according to the Ukrinform news agency.
Residents of Ukraine’s second largest city reported several explosions around 11 p.m., as well as a new series of explosions starting at midnight.
