Despite having lost resoundingly against Uruguay, Gerardo Martino did not feel any concern after Mexico fell 0-3, since he considers that in friendly matches the result does not matter and what is truly valuable is the functioning of the team.
The Argentine strategist commented that these types of meetings are more to test things and that the results are not the most important thing.
“Now it is a period of learning and testing things that we may need in the world cup. Neither the defeat against Uruguay nor the victory against Nigeria guarantees that we will arrive in the same way in five months.
In this sense, what Martino is looking for with these friendly and preparation matches is to address some specific failures. That logically the team will always seek to win, however, victory is not what the strategist prioritizes in this type of match.
“It is clear that the result at this time modifies what we receive from the outside. Inside we are clear about where we are going, what we are looking for, what the real competition is and it is the World Cup, before it was the qualifying rounds. In the middle there are friendly matches that strengthen or weaken you, but we always go to work”, commented Tata.
“From outside it comes: ‘He is going to resign or not’, but it is a media game that we are not going to discuss. Tomorrow we want to win the game”, explained Martino in view of the commitment that the Mexican team will have against Ecuador this Sunday.
