Uber announced that it reached an agreement to incorporate the entire fleet of New York City taxis into its application. The company indicated that it expects the incorporation of the new vehicles to the app to take place during the course of this spring.
“This is a real win for drivers – they no longer have to worry about finding an off-peak fare or getting a call back to Manhattan when they’re in the suburbs,” said Uber Business Development Director Guy Peterson. .
He pointed out that the other big winners of this agreement will be the users, who they will be able to count on a greater availability of taxis, which will significantly reduce waiting times by having a greater availability of vehicles.
“And this is a real win for riders who will now have access to thousands of yellow cabs on the Uber app,” he added.
The deal between Uber and New York’s fleet of taxis was made possible by the fact that two other apps, Curb and Creative Mobile Technologies will become part of the popular transport app.
The alliance also symbolizes the end of the war between New York City taxi drivers and Uber, which had dragged on for years over accusations of unfair competition denounced by workers.
The intent of the app expand its operations in New York City It is not a random decision since New York is one of the most important and profitable markets for the company, so this bet could translate into a significant increase in profits.
It is estimated that the agreement will allow Uber to have a fleet of at least 14,000 new taxiswhich represents a not insignificant number.
One aspect that will change from the point of view of drivers is that from now on they will not know the price of the trip they are going to make, since this information will only be available to customers. They may request a car and if they do not agree with the price they may cancel the request.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, jokingly claimed before the deal was announced that they hope that by the year 2025 all the taxi drivers in the world will be part of their application.
