Mexican striker Carlos Vela renewed his contract until the end of the 2023 season with Los Angeles FC and thus ended the novel about his possible renewal or departure from the MLS club.
After much speculation about the future of his career and the renewal of his stay in American football, The Mexican stated that he had offers from Liga MX, but that it was not his wish to return to Mexico.
“I did have some approach from Mexican teams, but I did not contemplate it or it was not one of the main places where I wanted to continue my career,” Vela acknowledged at a press conference on Tuesday.
In case of not renewing with the LAFC team, Vela had as a second option to return to European football where he shone at Real Sociedad in the Santander League. The Mexican, who emerged from the Chivas de Guadalajara Basic Forces, never debuted in Liga MX due to his early departure to European football.
“I had an offer, I talked to some people from teams in Mexico, but as I always said, my first option was to stay in Los Angeles. and continue in this team. If this did not happen for any reason, I was going to see the options I had in Europe again, it was my second option, ”he expressed about his possible departure.
Vela also took the opportunity to talk about his possible return to the Mexican team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and help up front, but the player ruled out any news of the possible return.
“As I’ve already said, it’s up to the youngsters to be in the World Cup; from here support them and wish them the best, hopefully we can reach the fifth, sixth, seventh game that we Mexicans love so much and that Tata (Martino) decides those who have to be there and give their best”, he sentenced.
Vela has not played with the Mexican team since the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where they fell to Brazil in the round of 16.
