Three specimens of nurse shark or cat shark attacked an 8-year-old British boy who was vacationing with his family in the Bahamascausing serious injuries, which required a complicated surgical intervention.
According to the testimony of Finley’s father, Michael Downer, It was a scene that seemed to be taken from the movie “Jaws”.
Finley was bitten on both legs by at least three nurse sharks after wading into a lagoon. The problem was that the sharks were being fed leftover food when they entered the water.
“There was so much blood,” Michael said, recounting that “pieces” of his leg were hanging off.
As Finley screamed for help, his 12-year-old sister managed to pull him out of the pond by pulling his arms, according to the report. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment and underwent a three-hour operation.
“My son could have been killed,” Michael said. “It was like a scene from Jaws.”
Finley is estimated to he will use a wheelchair for a long time and is expected to have permanent scars on his legs.
Nurse sharks are slow-moving bottom dwellers and do not normally harm humans.. However, sharks have been known to bite humans with their strong jaws packed with thousands of serrated teeth in acts of defense.
