The Hollywood Academy received and accepted the “immediate resignation” of the actor Will Smith after the controversial slap to the comedian Chris Rockreported this Friday the president of the institution, David Rubin, in a manifesto collected by Efe just an hour after the actor’s statement.
“We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceeding against Mr. Smith for violating the Academy’s codes of conduct ahead of the board meeting scheduled for April 18.Rubin concluded in his response.
And it is that it will be this day when the organization of the Oscars agrees on a definitive resolution about the controversial blow that Smith dealt Rock, after a joke about the alopecia of the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, in the 94th edition of the Oscars held last Sunday.
This Wednesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had already urged Smith to make a written statement about his conduct at the ceremony of the most important film awards worldwide.
A request that the interpreter agreed to today with his decision to leave the Academy due to his “shocking, painful and inexcusable” performance.
The actor had 15 days to send that statement before the institution “takes any disciplinary action” on April 18, which could be “suspension, expulsion or any other sanction allowed in the statutes.”
Smith also ruled on this possibility in his resignation letter as a member of the Hollywood Academy, stating that he is subject to “further consequences”.
