The war between Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has increased the wave of violence in Mexico, due to the dispute between both organizations to control most of the territory for the transport of drugs.
And although the cartel led by Ismael “Mayo” Zambada and the children of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been present in several states of the Mexican Republic for years, the growth that the organization of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantesalias “El Mencho”, is causing concern in the United States.
This is revealed by a recent report by the United States Congressional Research Service, which warns that the CJNG has a presence in 28 of the 32 states of Mexico.
In said document, it is detailed that this cartel has extensive domain in the regions of Jalisco, Guerrero, State of Mexico, Veracruz, Colima and Nayarit, while the states where it has not been able to penetrate are Sinaloa, Sonora, Durango and Tlaxcala.
“The CJNG built its international dominance by first extending its presence through a rapid expansion within Mexico… Its ambitious expansion campaign was characterized by high levels of violence, particularly in Ciudad Juárez and Tijuana,” the analysis describes.
To highlight the great risk that this criminal organization represents, the report adds: “The cartel has also been linked to several mass graves in southwestern Mexico and was responsible for shooting down a Mexican Army helicopter in 2015the first successful demolition of a military asset of this type in Mexico.”
The US Congress also mentioned the use of drones with explosives to attack rivals and authorities, I feel this is a modality that had not been seen before.
“They have used improvised explosive devices to destroy army vehicles and drones to bomb police infrastructure and rivals. These tactics expand beyond the cartels’ existing tools,” he notes.
According to the same report, the alarming expansion of CJNG is due, in large part, to the complicity of some authorities, assuring that some Mexican officials and police officers on the cartel’s payroll have avoided taking action against its members, and those who have. they have indeed paid the consequences, even with their own lives.
“Press reports indicate that CJNG attacks on Jalisco public officials exceeded one hundred murders, with victims including legislators, police officers, soldiers and, allegedly, the Jalisco Secretary of Tourism,” the report adds.
Finally, the report highlights that The DEA considers the Jalisco New Generation Cartel a maximum threat from the United States and the best armed criminal group in Mexico. “His reputation for extreme and intimidating violence continues,” he concluded.
