A group of municipal police Purisima del Rinconin Guanajuato, became a trend on social networks, when images were spread in which the uniformed men lend their weapons to high school students to train them on their use.
Given this, civil society organizations condemned the program through which the agents of that town taught the use of various weapons to young people, as part of a course on prevention of addictions and violence.
According to the statement released by these organizations, the activity was carried out as part of the Planet Youth state program, in charge of the government of the state of Guanajuato.
“Eliminating violence from the daily life of children is a difficult enough task, so that, in addition, it is the public security authorities who bring firearms closer to children and adolescents,” reads the statement.
In this way, they expressed their concern about the impact that armed violence continues to have among the country’s youth.
Organizations such as the Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico, the Victoria Díez Human Rights Center, and Weaving Networks for Children in Latin America and the Caribbean, among others, recalled the urgency of taking measures to prevent and deal with armed violence, but otherwise form.
“The approach to address violence by State institutions cannot and should not occur with the approach of any type of weapon to children and adolescents,” they added.
For its part, the local Public Security Secretariat reported that it is already investigating the case to find the person responsible for allowing the students to maneuver the weapons.
At a press conference, Benjamin Alejandro Vargas Hernandezdirector of Public Security of the city council, assured that this type of conduct will not be tolerated.
“It will not be tolerated. the municipal president Roberto Garcia Urbano it was clear in demanding that responsibility be determined and the sanction determined by the competent instances, both internal affairs and the authorities, be applied; and that an investigation will be carried out ex officio,” the official reported.
