Will There Be Air Gear Season 2?
It has been fifteen years since our beloved series aired and fans have been flooding the internet with queries regarding the following season. To their disappointment, there is no official announcement regarding the following season. There is no hope of return as it is on the verge of cancellation. Here’s everything we know so far.
Air Gear is based on a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Oh! Great. It was first published in the year 2003 and ended in July 2012. It has 37 volumes so far.
Air Gear is an incredible anime series that was greatly loved by audiences around the world for its extreme sports element which was a trend back in the early 2000s. Hence, the fans have been demanding a comeback for the last fifteen years. This anime television series has only one season with two OVAs. The series has been created by Studio Toei Animation and directed by Hajime Kamegaki. There is no word shared by the team on whether the studio or the director will make a comeback for Air Gear season 2.
Speculations are that the second season might never happen. If there was any chance of season 2, it would have happened a long time ago. The main reason is that the season failed to make an adequate amount of profit. Therefore, it is highly doubtful whether the production team will plan for a follow-up season in this situation.
Despite having a unique concept, the series sadly couldn’t grab the audience’s attention. The season was very well produced and nicely animated. Fans also hooked on to its soundtrack and appreciated various characters. But still, it had a poor screenplay. Season 1 received average reviews as a result. Therefore, it couldn’t perform well in terms of ratings and sales. We can say that it is next to impossible for the Air Gear series to ever return with another mind-blowing season.
However, we might get a sequel if any other studio decides to continue the series. Despite being a financial failure, Air Gear has managed to acquire a massive fanbase. Talking about present times, Air Gear has enough potential to make a good comeback. Fans have been going insane on social media for the series. If this audience pressure continues in the future, we might expect the next season soon.
Talking about the source material, there is enough content to create another full season. The Air Gear manga series consists of 37 volumes. Out of which season 1 adapted the first 12 volumes. Whereas, the two OVAs were created out of volumes 16, 23 and 24. Hence, there are 22 volumes still left to be adapted in an anime series.
We are pretty sure true fans will wait and never stop hoping for a second season. We will update once we know more about air gear season 2 release date.
