the ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of committing genocide in Ukraine amid reports that Russian forces were leaving behind brutalized bodies and widespread destruction. in their wake when they withdrew from the kyiv region.
In an interview with CBS, The president was forceful: “This is genocide… It is the elimination of an entire nation and its people. We are citizens of Ukraine and we have more than 100 nationalities living here. This is the destruction and extermination of all these nationalities.”
“We are citizens of Ukraine and we do not want to be subjected to the policy of the Russian federation, and this is the reason why we are being destroyed and exterminatedZelenskyy said through a translator, noting that the alleged atrocities are happening in “the Europe of the 21st century.”
The Ukrainian president explained that the Russians are “destroying and exterminating” Ukraine because its people do not want to “be subjugated by the politics” of Moscow.
The withdrawal of Russian troops from the north of the Ukrainian capital, kyiv, has revealed the alleged summary executions of several hundred civilians in the Bucha suburb and other areas.
Also this Sunday, the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschkó, indicated that the lifeless civilians found in the streets of Bucha “had their hands tied behind their backs,” as can be seen in the photographs released by international media.
Zelenskyy called the situation in Mariupol and other Russian-controlled cities a “humanitarian disaster,” saying they have “many bodies” in the streets and no corridors for food, water and supplies. There are believed to be around 100,000 civilians still in Mariupol.
